How I became a Doctor

When I was 12 I went on holiday to Scotland with my family at the time I wanted to be a lawyer or MP. Sat on the beach somewhere around the Mull of Kintyre I realised that I never wanted to go home, I wanted to live somewhere this beautiful where I could wander around stunning  landscapes and climb up mountains. Lawyers and MPs  needed to live in London. I was 12, and it was time I had a more realistic career plan.

I went through all the people that would be needed in this community, and realised that they would need Doctors.

‘But you’ll need lots of As to get in’ said my parent

‘Well I’ll just have to make sure I get them’

I hadn’t worked that hard at school before this, and had just been an average student, but once I knew I had a goal I worked a whole lot harder and got into medical school.

      Hi

Thanks for your comment! You’ve reminded me why I’ve carried on blogging! Over the years I’ve said everything that there is to say about being a transsexual doctor. I carry on because I want to say to guys like you that it’s ok. It’s possible, you can do it. I remember feeling although I was the only one out there, and that no one else had ever managed to be a transsexual doctor. This wasn’t helped by my Medical School’s attitude that they didn’t think it was possible to be both transsexual and a doctor.
